Assignments For October 20

Please complete the following for class on October 20:

  • In Module 5, read the section labeled Proteins and Enzymes.
  • Complete the Lab 5.3 *You may work with a partner*
  • Complete the following questions regarding the lab.
1. At the end of the experiment, examine the 3 bowls. Briefly explain what happened in
each.
2. Why was it important to use fresh pineapple?
3. Why did the Jell-O that contained fresh pineapple juice not gel?
4. How was the enzyme in fresh pineapple destroyed?
5. Why is it important to eat protein in your diet?

  • Bring in your assigned materials for the Water Lab (if you will not be in class, important to let me know! Your supplies are needed to complete the lab).
Kyle= 1/2 cup sugar
Josiah= 2 tablespoons of salt and 2 tablespoons of pepper
Grayson= 10 pennies
Gavin= wax paper
Gabriel= small box of toothpicks (approx. 30)
Tyler= kitchen liquid detergent
Michaela= small box of paperclips

  • In addition, please bring in your assigned materials for the pH Lab (if you will not be in class, it is important to let me know! Your supplies are needed to complete the lab).
Kyle= 1/4 cup vinegar
Rachael= 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/4 cup Coke soda
Andrew= 1/4 cup bottle water
Ali= 1/4 cup salt water and 1/4 cup bleach
Michaela= 1/4 cup liquid detergent
Tyler= 1/4 cup black coffee (brewed)
Calli= 1/4 cup milk
Christian= pack of small bathroom cups

I still need a volunteer to bring in 1/4 cup tomato juice. If you are able, please leave a message under the post. Thanks!

***If you would like to bring in another substance to test, please do so! Just make sure it is safe.***
